Salvation, one of the most basic parts of Christianity, but it often surprises me how little people really know about it. If you ask most people how they are saved, they will pull out the one bible verse that they have up in there head, dust it off, and recite it, that’s right, John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. OK,So we got the part that God sent his son Jesus to save me, but how does that really work? It says in Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace we have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift from God, not of works, lest any man should boast. We are saved by the grace of God, He had enough mercy and grace on such a sinful world, that He sent His son to die on the cross for us. And the only way to accept His grace is through faith, faith that he really did this for us.
So we are saved, saved from what? Why is it so important? In Romans 6:23 it says: for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. The wages of sin is death, but even greater then death is eternal separation from God, and from the life that He gives. The Bible also says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, that is why salvation is so very important- because all have sinned, there is none that are excluded from that list except Christ himself. We need salvation!
Now that we are saved, and we have made Jesus the Lord of our life, we don’t have to worry, we can just keep on livin’, we can do what we have always done, it doesn’t matter anymore… right?…WRONG!!! Romans 6:1 says: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that Grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who have died to sin live any longer in it? God’s salvation is a continual process of renewal, and restoration in our lives. Our goal is to be more like Christ. We will fall, and we will stumble, but the Bible says that His mercies are new every morning!
God did give His own son to die on the cross, Jesus payed the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. So by having faith in the fact that God had enough grace and mercy to give His son for our sins, we are saved, It is a good day. No matter what problems that you maybe facing today, you have the opportunity to choose to spend eternity with God, the Creator of the universe, The King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords! It is a good day!
